Default Muffler question (hot damn!)...

One more;
:-)

Okay; I want my car to be a wee bit louder than it already is. I have the K&N cone kit which sounds outstanding. I don't want rice sound, and I don't want muscle car sound. I'm probably going to get free flow cats from summitracing. How will this affect my emissions? What kind of muffler do you recommend for a nice deep mellow sound? I don't want interior resonance, and I don't want abnoxious outside noise; I DO wan't a nice growl when I really step on it though. Actually... I kinda like the way the WRX sounds. It's quiet below 3 or 4, and tears open above that. Any ideas? I'm willing to spend around $250 on a muffler. Thanks sooo much for the help.

Cheers,
Mike

Default Re: Muffler question (hot damn!)...

A friend of mine bought a Dynomax muffler for his '89 90Q. The resonator has been removed but the factory cat is still there. Now the inline 5 sounds wonderful revving up! The note is not too loud, but it has the right amount of bark when revving it. Like a rally car! So much better than those bumble-bee droning riced-out 4-bangers.

Default i would leave the stock cats on there, engine was designed for those cats

besides its going to make a foul stench, and you wont feel any difference.

Default My current cats make a foul stench. They need to be replaced badly. Where do I...

get cheap factory cats? I was going to do racing cats because they are only like $60 each. Will it really smell bad? My goal of getting new cats is to kill the smell. Arrrgh... now I'm gonna have to spend like $500 on factory cats (meow). Ideas?

Thanks,
Mike
