my 1993 90q vs 2003 BMW 330xi in 4" of fresh snow
So my friend has the 330xi (230hp) and wanted to compare the AWD system.
We both drove our own vehicles hard and then switched and when driving the other car we were obviously more careful.
Our driving skills are about equal, and the 330xi had new snow tires and my 90 has 4 year old hakka's.
We came away with the same impressions and here they are in summary:
At higher speeds, packed down snow, straight stretches the 330xi showed it's 230hp, was faster hands down.
However in more slippy conditions my old 90 was much more stable, predictable, sure footed and faster.
From a dead stop my 90 would easily jump a head up to about 40km where the bimmer would catch up.
Going through turns and loops my 90 would do a nice 4 wheel drift with the car being very steady and grippy with steady power distribution to the wheels. I could also adjust the over/under steer by feathering the throttle.
This is where the bimmer had the most problems with and without the ESP. The bimmer was very twitchy, unstable, hard to control end result was that it almost ended up in a ditch and also was quite slower.
In addition the xi has a very "disconnected" road feel, I realize that it's electronic throttle, but so is my A4 and the A4 has a very good road feel.

good review. Basically all the B4 needs is a better (more HP) engine. I still think the ABY shoulda
been the motor for the B4 (or 3B at minimum), then at least that way we'd have the motor mount & engine bay configured for a 20vt and could very easily drop in an AAN if desired..... if qPilot ruled the world =P

for ***** & giggles!?! hehehe
yea, i dunno.. didn't really think that one through. Spent so much time lusting after an AAN that it just kinda naturally fits into every conversation =P
But an ABY would certainly be more than acceptable.
