Default My 95-90 coupe lives again... :-)

It had been sitting in the garage all of this past year, but it away when we bought an allroad last Oct.

It was showing a cel, trans was stuck in third gear, and badly needed brakes. And the high dollar steering rack was leaking like a sieve!

I found a really good indy tech, that had previously worked at our dealership, and had started his own shop.

He diagnosed the trans problem as a bad speed sensor, was able to locate a rebuilt steering rack for $800. installed, so I gave him the go ahead to r&r the car.

New pads and rotors, new bushings on the suspension, rebuilt steering rack, speed sensor on the trans, and all the vacumn lines that caused the cel...tune up, oil change and filter, brake system flush, cooling system flush. And two cv boots..

And replaced cat on passenger side...

Total bill was 2743.88 and 565. for the oem cat!
And the 90 now runs like new...

All thats left to do is the shocks and struts, and I want to put in a guage cluster to monitor oil temp, oil presure, and trans temp...

95-90 Black 158,000 miles, good for another 50,000

Default Its is good to have it running so well again, especially since the allroad is in the bodyshop!..more

You knnow its bad when a 12 1/2 year old car is a better ride than a new rental car..

Ins, and Enterprise put us in a Dodge Caliber....its like a poorly made Datsun...I swear it sounds like a lawn mower, and when you close a door its like stepping on an empty coke can!

My major concern was the trans problem, and the leaking steering rack...dealship wanted to rape us over 4k just for that alone!

Only thing left to do is strut mounts, struts, and shocks!
I had put new tires on it shortly before it went into the garage last year!

Default If you keep maintaining the car like that you will get much more than 50,000 more miles out of it...

I had almost 280,000 miles on my 90 (which was just about the same as yours). Had I not got rear ended I bet that car would have gone to at least 350,000 miles out of it.

Default Speed Sensor diagnosis of trans stuck in 3rd?

> trans was stuck in third gear...
> He diagnosed the trans problem as a bad speed sensor,

I have a cab with the trans stuck in third, too.

Can you find how how he diagnosed the bad speed sensor?

Was it by pulling a 00513 Engine Speed Sensor vag-com code or some other way?
