Default My exhaust sprung a leak today too.

As if the sunroof breaking wasn't enough for one day, a hole burned through the pipe in my exhaust that curves over the axle to the right rear wheel. This had previously been resting on top of the axle thanks to some broken exhaust hangers. I guess the heat finally made it's way through the thinned metal during some rather hard driving today.

Needless to say, I am replacing everything from the resonator -> back. I am having a muffler shop do the work. A straight pipe will be put in place of the resonator. I was hoping to replace the stock muffler with a nice high-flow muffler and some shinny tips. What is a good sounding muffler for an audi 5cyl? Would glass packs be way too loud? I don't want a "ricey" sound either.

Oh, and I have to admit, my car sounds very mean with this exhaust leak, even if it does hurt performance a little.

Default Avoid "straight pipe," will sound like a Cessna

It will be loud with a straight pipe, even with a new muffler in rear. Your best option is either a scorpion from cat back for around $850 plus labor, or stick with the two original mufflers, both would be less than $450 plus labor. I would recommend avoiding the straight pipe, there is a reason it has two mufflers, my friend did that straight pipe thing and it was loud as hell, sounded like it had no muffler at all

Did straight pipe anyway, does sound raspy, but not loud. Kept stock muffler.
