My Faulty speedometer. (long)
Last month dealer diagnosed that it was the speed sensor that was the problem so they replaced it. Few days later, problem surfaced again. Speedo drops at any speed and could stay off from few seconds to 15 minutes. It doesn't happen everyday but it get frustrating when you don't know how fast you are going. So I called dealer back and complained, they said bring it back and we'll take a look at it. They couldn't replicate the problem. They said the codes they pulled weren't pointing to the sensor or the speedo cluster. They suggested to keep the car for a day to monitor, observe and diagnose. So I gave them the car for the whole day. They called in the after noon and gave me the bad news. They could not find it and suggested couple things that may be the problem. I had no idea what he was talking about and did not believe what he was blaberring about. But they wrote me an estimate of what they want to do next that may fix the cause of the mysterious faulty speedometer.
I want your opinion on these per service tech:
"RECOMMEND REMOVING THE SIDE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL (TRANSMISSION) COVER TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER (ESTIMATE FOR FUTHER DIAGNOSIS IS $850 PLUS TAX). THE PROBLEM COULD ALSO BE IN THE HARNESS ($800 PLUS TAX)
Service tech discouraged me from pursuing it and suggested to just sell the car if I can. WTF!!!

I would first change the speed sensor in the gearbox.........

Its simple & easy to do, takes about 5 minutes to do. The see what happens, see if the problem continues?
You can see it in the picture, right above the fill plug, black plastic item.
If it does, find yourself a good used instrument cluster, and swap out the speedo! :O)
