I have been over this step/process several times. I had been trying to figure out where the noise was coming from in the rear over every MINOR and I mean minor bump in the road. Its not the way your shock is put together. I know this because I covered everything in foam to try to sound out the noise. Look at your coils they have been collapsing together.. you should be able to see some very minor rub marks. Your coils are falling down on top of echother under load and its making the clanging sound.
Lol I road in the back of my car in the trunk while someone else drove to try to find out where it was coming from one time. I took the rear struts off probably 5 diffrent times just to try and solve the problem. It got to the point to where I just said the hell with it and sold the springs. Lol I actually stood outside in the cold of winter having my friend repeditly run over a small brick to lissen for the sound. Its not loud at all from the outside but in the cabin it almost sounds like a blown strut. The only thing I can tell you to do which probably wont work is to try to cover the coils infoam before you put them back on the car. Once the car is sitting on the ground you can actually see how close some of the coils get just sitting still.
Vog springs for the FWD 90 are JUNK!!!!!!!! Not just because of the noise that was easy to get rid of with some music.
