Default Narrowing down AC Problem - WTB: A replacement Grill?

I posted earlier about my AC. I've figured out that the compressor itself is working by bypassing the AC Clutch relay with a paperclip, the compressor works very well. I also ran the computer diagnostics on the AC Control head so it would seem that the climate control computer is fine, I also tested the relays against knowen working ones so what's left? What else could be causing the compressor not to turn on?

Also, the front grill (the lower one) is missing. Where would be the best place to get a replacement? (See picture for what I'm talking about it)

Default i know the A/C won't turn on if it is cold outside...

maybe a temp sensor failure. Or maybe the A/C switch itself. Do you have auto climate? Did you check the codes?

Default The clutch won't kick on if the system is low on refrigerant. The temp sensor is located on the

passenger side under the black plastic leaf shield in front of the windshield. I really don't think thid id the problem though.

Default Grill is part of the valance, can't be replaced...you'd need a new valance.

You could get some mesh material and make your own though.

How'd you break out the lower grille anyhow?

I didn't! I bought the car from a friend who seemed to enjoy destroying it, apparently either he or a mechanic he brought it to decided to rip off the lower grill while doing maintenance.

So there's nothing that's pre-cut as you can find for the upper grill (like in the picture below), it's all one solid piece of the valence?

Of course I don't want to replace the entire valence, so that's a good suggestion with making my own. So I'd just need to get a mesh/grille material. I'm just not sure where I would find something that would look asthetically normal with the rest of the front of the car, any suggestions?

An off the wall idea: How would I go about finding an old broken Audi that I could salvage the lower grill from?

I've got auto-climate, and all the temp sensors seem to read normal. I ran the check codes in the climate control computer and everything checked out OK, none of the temperature sensors have crazy readings.

Is there any way to test if the refirgerant is low? As I said I can force the compressor to run but I suppose it might not be running as well as it could be so it could very well be low on refrigerant.

Default You have also got the AC relay to worry about. Only test is to replace with a new one.

That's what was screwing mine up. It's in the under dash relay panel. I'm sure with a Bently you could come up with a jumper or two to fool the relay but I just replaced mine and it works like a champ.

Default Well Audi doesn't have a seperate part number for the grill - and the many times I was under...

...my B4s I never saw an easy way to remove it - looks to be molded into the lower part of the valance. I suppose if you had access to a parts car you might somehow be able cut it out...don't know how you'd reattach it to your valance so it looked original, but, in theory it could be done. I'd just assume fine some of the DIY mesh grill kits and make your own.

There's no part numbers for the grill whatsoever...
