Default New drive belt, Strange Noises.....

Put in a new serpentine belt last weekend, now in the moring, something is "Howls", kinda hi-pitched, from 1800 to around 2100 RPM's, for about the first 2 miles of driving, then noise disappears... Car still runs fine. Any hints???

Default The new belt is too tight. It will loosen up after a while...>

...as long as you used the correct tightening guidlines in the instructions. I think we all put them on a little too tight "just to be safe" but that is usually just a hair too much. Mine too about 200 miles to stop howling.

The serpentine belt has an automatic tensioner...no adjustment is done...at least on the V6.

Thanks, the old belt was on there for quite a while from the looks of it, just wanted to make sure, because I have changed the belt on my other cars, and never experienced that noise.

Youre right, I do have an automatic tensioner, I guess ill have to wait and see how long till the new belt stretches out.

It doesn't need to stretch. As it stretches, the tensioner moves and essentially maintains the same tension. The surfaces of the serpentine belt haven't worn into the pulley grooves fully. It should quiet down soon.

Not really, removing the fans made it easier, that was the toughest part, the wires are a pain in the ***, have to get at them from underneath, have to remove the bellypan, after that, its a cakewalk.
