I have an 1990 model 90(10)(automatic) with 150,000 miles. It was running like a new car until 3 weeks ago when the motor suddenly stalled while driving in town without warning or showing any kind of symptoms. It then started immediately and I drove home. Over the next few days the stalling happened again after driving about 1 mile and restarted again after a short wait. This stalling occurred twice more after driving a couple of city blocks and now sits in my driveway and refuses to start.
The battery is fully charged and the motor cranks great but no start. I checked for spark and there is no spark at plugs or from high tension lead to the distributor. I removed the distributor cap and confirmed that the rotor turns when motor is cranked.
Over the past 2 months I installed the following new parts:
- O2 sensor
- distributor cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs
- ignition coil pack
- MFTS and CTS
- engine temp sending unit
- exhaust
- fuel pump and fuel filter
- ECU/fuel pump relay
- cleaned the ISV
I checked for fault codes with LED and get 4-4-4-4 reading (which supposedly indicates there are no fault codes stored).
When I turn on ignition key the instrument cluster test light scans system and indicates "OK".
Fuel pump runs normally when the key is turned on and fuel is getting to the cylinders.
No one in my area knows anything about Audi's, of are pretending not to.
Any help out there would be appreciated.

If that shows no spark, then start working backwards from there... bad coil, bad wiring, bad ignition control module.

As a result of the no spark condition, I installed a new coil pack and still get no spark between coil wire and ground.

I disconnected the two terminal wires from the coil and connected them to an LED and cranked the motor. The LED did not pulse on and off. What does this tell me?

If there is no spark from the brand new coil going to the main plug at the distributor does this mean that the hall sender in the distributor is not doing it's job?
