I'll conduct a little mini-workshop and you 4 can feel free to e-me on any aspect or if you have questions at any stage. This way I can blow thru this project and won't be strapped with alot of questions from many but just you four and I'll finish it in 3-5 days.

This pic shows the warm air intake valve and flapper door assembly in red angle legends and it's path when fully open in interrupted red lines. Ideally this door should be closed tight at anything above 50F. This pic was taken at 78F and you can see the door (red angle legend in pic) is 20% open meaning it would be pulling heated air in from the exhaust manifold area at an ambient temperature that the engine cant possibly benefit from any pre-heated air. Both airbox thermal valves operated identically in the all important refrigerator/freezer and propane torch tests ;-)

Blue legend is cold air intake and you can see when thermo valve opens completely (at 35F on both air boxes in picture) all cold air is completely blocked off relying on an 1.5" diameter tube for 100% of all intake air.

Yellow legend shows heated air auxillary intake and outlet of warm air while red arrows indicate flow path of hot air.

If any questions just ask.

I'm going to try and get the lid heat-proofed tonight as I found a crack in the jukyard one I bought to do the project on. And I need to keep the car running and driveable. The junkyard airbox base in background with heated bypass valve mechanism and plumbing removed has been cleaned and and is in mint condition and I'll start work on it tomorrow.
