Finishing up the job, '95 Cab head gaskets. Have all the tools, vag-com etc. Won't start. Turns over, no spark. Fuel getting delivered. No Codes. I even pulled the Camshaft Position Sensor connection (my #1 culpret)and reran the scan. It picked that up. What are the typical offenders in this that block ignition? Will do the LED test on the cam pos sensor when I get back from trip.

Physically use the key to lock, then unlock your driver's side door.
Then, try the fob. Does it unlock and lock the doors? If it does, then try to start the car.
Usually, I need to so all of this after the battery sits disconnected for a while. It resets the security system. The car "blips" your key signal when the key physically unlocks the driver's door. That way it can associate the key with an authorized user.

I'll give it a try when I get home, but your '98 is more sophisticated than the '95 (very early production). No remote key fob and I don't think the central locking has an imobilizer. It didn't come up as one of the controllers in the Vag-Com auto scan. I checked the MOTOR fuses, and #28 (IIRC) all OK. I did have the battery out. I pulled a plug and grounded it while cranking to visually confirm no spark. Replaced ignition switch some time ago. All worked well prior to head gasket job.

Ignition coil harness connector at the firewall not snapped together correctly (the white one). I had disconnected it to facilitate removing the oxygen sensor connector during the job. I'm a bit miffed that the Vag-Com didn't pick up on that. Minor issues to clear up now - hopefully.
