Default that odometer gear guy must be making a killing

29 bucks for something the size of a tiny pebble. oh well, glad to have a fix that's under a 100 bucks. i've learned my lesson buying used clusters only to open them up and find more BROKEN GEARS!

not sure if you know this... but don't reset the trip meter while the car is moving...

Default I've done that million times, nothing ever happened. Does Audi says not to do it or

people just came up with from their personal experience?

Re: broke mine once in exactly that way. Hot day, moving, punch the reset - plastic gear breaks.

take it apart and you'll see why not to do it.

I'm not sure that is true, I've been playing with my odometer for the last hour and I can't seem to get anything to jam with the reset button. When you press the button to whole gear system becomes unloaded and when you release the button the gears fall back into place perfectly.

When I pulled off my broken odometer gear it was actually stuck to rod it was rolling on. The OEM gear center cylinder is of a soft plastic or rubberish material that you can deform with your fingers. So I assume that the heat would cause the soft plastic to bind to the rod and thus breaking the gear.

Default so I'm assuming everyone here who had that problem

with resetting their trip meter had the gear break exactly at 0 0 0 0 ? Mine broke at 0 1 3 4
