Default Odometer gear orientation?

Well, I'm in the process of replacing my broken odometer gear. I pulled the cluster apart before finals and am now putting it back together.

I'm following <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/9080/msgs/116768.phtml">QCRAZY's writeup</a>, and in step nine, he states:

"When you pull the circuit board off make sure to note the orientation of the odometer gears, place them back on the same way they came out."

How important is this? Because I don't remember how it came out.

Default I the orientation means...

The part you have facing me in the your picture is the part that should face the stepper motor. I can't imagine the rotation matters.
