Default Oil Temperature Gauge

Alright folks, was wondering if you could help me with a little problem i've got?

Just bought the car on Friday and i'm still getting to learn things about it.

When driving my oil temperature cools down to a point where I am reminded by the graphic on the computer. If I park the car and leave the engine running the temp steadily rises again. However when driving once more it drops again!

Any help would be great

Thanks!

Default Are you referring to the graphic in the autocheck display?

If so, I believe that graphic (red animated oil can?) is associated with oil pressure, not temperature. Cool oil is not a bad thing and wouldn't generate a warning like you are describing. Low oil pressure IS a bad thing. Have you checked the oil?
The fluctuation on your oil temp gauge (assuming you have one) could be due to a loose wire. If you have a 5 cyl, the oil temp sender is located on the oil pump, which is mounted on the front of the engine at the crank shaft. You'll see one wire going to it. Make sure this is tight.
As for the oil pressure, check your oil level and listen to the engine while it's running. If oil level is ok and you don't hear any loud ticking (indicating oil-starved hydraulic lifters), you're problem is likely one of the two oil pressure sending units on the engine.
Hope that helps and good luck. Keep us posted!

Just realised that the temp display icon thing only appears when im picking up the speed. Just driving about town the temp stays normal

Thanks

Default Wavy lines with thermometer

my guess would be that, that is something to do with your coolant temp. and not your oil. I have the minicheck so im not completley sure.

Default The display you are getting refers to the coolant temp.

Chances are you just need to add a cup of water to the coolant expansion tank.

Default Definitely low on coolant and/or the sensor is going awry.

The sensor is at the bottom of the coolant tank...they tend to leak around there as well (when the tank/sensor gets older). A new tank (with sensor) shouldn't cost too much at the dealer if it is indeed leaking.
