Default Good news is, you can screw the timing up royally and you won't bend any valves. Bad news...

...is that it won't run or will run/start horribly. I once did a 10v turbo and was off by one tooth. The ran fine, but every other start would take about 5-10 seconds of cranking. Turns out I turned the engine the wrong way when checking the timing. Lesson learned: always turn engine to the left, ej: turn crank clockwise when looking at front of engine. HTH and good luck.
