Ok, we can finally put most of this tranny conversion stuff to bed...

I had no pre-conceived notion of all the weight savings I'd discover/implement during the project before going in. I originally planned to just shorten the stock drive shaft a few inches. Use the old CV's and gain from the ratios and 23lb lighter flywheel as my only real rotational mass weight-savings plus maybe a half pound from shortening the drive shaft. I never imagined before-hand the 37.5lb total rotational mass weight-loss I'd get from a one-piece lightweight drive shaft with lightened CV's along with the lighter flywheel.
And then to discover the A4 aluminum box trick near the end that made what I was planning on being the most difficult/fiddly aspect of the conversion and turn it into an incredibly elegant/simple solution that more closely resembled a walk in the park than a chore was SUCH a pleasantry. I NEVER get that lucky!
But now I've got 4 brand new inboard axle CV's screaming to join "Mance's Rotational Mass Weight Loss Clinic" and all vying for time on the exer-lathe to shed those 2 unwanted pounds. The fun never ends ;-)

base collar as it's opening will allow an additional 1"+ raising of the link rod and further shortening of the throw between gears. My math indicates it could be an over 50% throw reduction total or about 65% more than the standard unit he produces.

an engine at full-song to any song I've ever heard in a car radio (with the possible exception of Tull's "Locomotive Breath" played LOUD while driving solo and WAY beyond my limits at my local track).
Now my home system, thats another story!

any technical papers dealing with rotational inertia vs horsepower? I've found a couple SAE papers but haven't thrown in the $10 to buy the write up's from SAE.
Let me know I am very interested in reading that material.
And by the way I loved keeping up with the progress of this transformation. It was very interesting information. Thanks for paving the way...

you read 10 different papers you get 10 different answers. Everyone has their postulation. I've kinda given up as nothing seems empirical or carved in stone. Sometimes I just let things go and realize they "just are" and try to be ok with that. Besides, its kinda like a dog chasin' a car... what would I do with it if I caught it!?!

peice that threads down on the existing **** threads with a hollow sleeve the same diameter as the current shaft. That'd give you all sorts of room to move the linkage up and thread the top for the ****.
Something like a dis sketch:
