Default opinions on A/C problem

With summer coming, decided to finally work on getting my A/C going on my 90q. When I switch on the A/C, the clutch definitely doesn't engage. I'm awfully tempted to just get a new compressor. I've been looking around at costs, and it looks like $220 is about the best I can do. I could also just try to replace the clutch, but that looks awfully complex, and prone to me breaking something. Looks like the best I can do there is about $110. Anyone have opinions on the best way to do this job?

Default Why diagnose when you can just replace some parts?

It's probably the evaporator, but don't take my word for it: find out what's wrong before randonly changing parts.

Default Its definitely the clutch. It doesn't click on, nor does it spin.

My question was really "is it worth bothering with the clutch or get a whole new compressor"

When you say it doesn't spin, do you mean it's ceased an the belt is jusst slipping/squealing around it? There are many reasons why a compressor clutch won't engage, not the least of which would be low refridgerant. I would have the car checked first by an A/C shop.

Default Take a 12v jumper directly to the clutch, see if that engages it. As Ben's e//s2

says, there are lots of reasons other that the clutch why it might not pull in.

How long has it been since it's worked? If it's not operated for a few years you will end up replacing the compressor anyway as they will rust from accumulated moisture.

I replaced everything on mine a few years back but I did it a piece at a time - fix one issue, something else shows up. The only thing I didn't replace was the evap coil in the dash.

Default Thanks! 12v to the clutch didn't activate it. Its been 1.5 years since I've had the car. All no A/C

I think I might just take it to a local shop to have them fix it
