Default Opinions wanted regarding my oil leak...

I got under the car and it appears the oil is coming from the driver's side top of the engine. There is oil running down the driver's side of the transmission from the top to bottom.

This leads me to believe that it's the valley pan gasket and not the rear main seal. Or could it be something else? The valve cover gaskets looked fine. I couldn't tell about the rear driver's side of the head gasket.

I took some pics. If they came out I will post them.

Default You might want to try to run some die through the system, it can get pretty cramped back there

so it would probably help you narrow down the leak. Just don't forget to clean off all the oil that is there now before putting the die in, makes finding the leak easier.

I think Autozone will rent you one for short money.

Default can't tell much there.....

Here's what to do....go to a car wash, wash your engine real good with the engine cleaner solution or just buy few cans of engine cleaner - wash it all off and go for a hard drive for about 5 minutes then pull over and take a good look. I doubt its your head gasket. it could easily be your rear cam seal - they can leak pretty bad but l;eave only a small trace up top so you don't see it until oil hits the bottom.

Default First, clean the engine.....

Then get a mirror & flashlight, and find the leak. Nothing can be fixed until you identify & verify whats leaking. ;O)

Default when my car was in the shop

they thought there was oil leaking out between the transmission and the engine They put dye in the oil to see if that's what it was but it was the powersteering pump. it ran down the engine (on the top) and then down between the transmission, iduno if that will help, but the guy thought it was transmission fluid or oil at first... good luck

Default You and I are in the same boat! ...

Same exact problem here... Haven't done any tests, but it's the same thing you're describing -- running down the driver's side, getting oil on the diff and tranny, and my valve cover gaskets are okay too. Let me know what's up with yours, and I'll do the same for you if I ever get around to it :-/

You can see the pics I took...
