I recently bought this 92 80 quattro through these forums and love the car. I chose this particular car because it had the reliable and hopefully relatively economical to fix 5 cyl engine, versus the equally reliable yet more complex 20v or the 6cyl with it's oil leaking woes. Not only that but performance wise the 5cyl seemed on par with the 6 cyl, at least according to the historical data provided in Audiworld. I have found to my detriment exactly how reliable this info actually is. Howver just a few observations.
You know how once you buy a car, you then see them everywhere? I guess this is simply because you are more aware and your eye is attuned to picking them out. Well this is the first car I have ever bought that I have yet to see another example of on the streets within 3 months and that includes some *relatively* rare cars such as a Corrado, 944 Turbo etc.
I previously had a 4KQ. While the B3 is light years ahead in terms of refinement as opposed to the 4kQ, the B3 mechanically seems more related to the 4KQ than it does to the B4 : same 5 cyl engine, same front and rear suspension, fuel pump location etc. Whereas the B4, though very similar to the B3 in appearance seems more closely related to the A4 (B5). Same 6 cyl engine, rear suspension etc. It's like Audi had only enough in the budget to change the interior and body and when the B4 came about the budget was more mechanically inclined. Then the A4 repeated the cycle, new body and interior but same mechanicals. Does this make sense?

Europe got many different versions of motors and such, while we got two to three. Blame a fabricated 60 Minutes report in the late 80's, but this report also made these cars VERY affordable to us in the used car market.

Thanks for the comments
I am on the island, so I have to pick and choose my trips to Van carefully, but would be glad to show up for a larger meet.
The color is Lago Metallic, not quite what you see in the picture, as if varies between blue and green depending on the light.
The only thing I was wondering made sense was the mechanical relationship to the 4000 as opposed to the B4.
The car is from the States, I guess we never got the 80 quattro up here. It has the cloth Sport quattro interior.
