Default Please help! audi making awful screeching noises
I as driving my car this morning and started hearing a squealing noise. Started to get worse so I pulled over, it sounds like it's a belt, seems to be coming from the front. Kind of goes away at higher RPM's, but sounds REAL BAD at idle. Got both serpentine and timing belts changed, maybe 30,000 mi ago, anyone have any ideas what it could be before i take it to the mechanic?? Please help!! '93 90CS

Mine did that when the a/c compressor was running (stopeed when put in ECON mode). The new belt just needed to be tightened and it stopped.

Is your ignition switch sticking?? I'm wondering if it could be your starter staying engaged.

doesn't seem to be coming from ignition, noise fluctuates with engine speed

Probably just the belt slipping then. Try to isolate it as best you can.

Take it back to whoever did your belts 30k ago and make them fix it.
