I received URS4's completed throttle body last monday- and finally had a chance to do some 0-60 timed runs on it- Here are the factors:
93 Audi 90CS Manual Trans, Front wheel drive. Mods: Ported and polished heads and exhaust manifolds
Actual total weight of car while in trial: 3360lbs
Outside temperature: 36 degrees F.
Road surface: Completely flat rural strip of asphalt
2-3 gallons in tank while all 16 runs.
Approx 400 feet above sea- level
87 octane gas
Results
With Ported and polished heads, and exhaust manifolds, with stock throttle body.
8 Runs total with an average of 7.63 seconds 0-60mph
Results with Throttle body mod
8 Runs total with an average of 7.25 seconds 0-60mph
Main problem was keeping the front tires from spinning during launchs- Could have improved .4 seconds with solid launches. Perhaps when I head to the track the VHT will help this situation, it will also provide more accurate times.
also - would anyone run this vin for me: WAUAA88G6TA002378

is to eleminate the "launch" from the equation. It's too hard to duplicate consecutive identical ones. Far better to settle for an accurate, albeit slower MAD/SAD (mean or standard average deviation) than the fastest time. To that end here's the method I use for a manual car:
Release the clutch at an as-close-to idle speed as possible. Then when the car is rolling forward at the slowest speed it will idle/run without bucking or lurching, PUNCH IT! Start the stopwatch at the punch then stop it at indicated 60mph on the speedo. Doesn't matter if the speedo isnt accurate as it's the same seedo for all runs.
As I said this will definately create slower 0-60 times but far more consistent results. And it's easier on the car and far, far more accurate method to glean an idea of how many percentage points one mod is worth over another.
If I side-stepped the clutch at 3-4k every time I tested a new TB mod I'd be replacing clutches and pressure plates twice a month.
Speed is not the issue when comparing mods. Consistency is. Save the speed for races.
Automatic transmissions are SOOOO much easier and consistent to test. Just mash-n-go!
