Default problem fixed, not sure how

i have my car running fine now....all i did was unbolt the plastic intake shroud off, pull it forward and rebolt it....the rubber seal, can that be replaced? it looks like its worn and might not be sealing air out.
i also noticed this rubber hose going from some vacuum pump? on the left down to the where the butterflys would be, the hose turns....its connected to some sort of swivel tip.....i used a hose clamp to lock it down....car idles fine now.....odd

Default What engine do you have?

Judging by your username, I'd guess you have an M20 engine.

The V6 doesn't have a vaccum pump.

On the back of the intake manifold, towards the passenger side of the engine, there is a vaccum hose that comes out of a vertical fitting. The hose touches the intake manifold and I have seen splitting of that hose where it makes contact with the (potentially) hot metal. When that hose was bad on my car, it would stall at idle. You should check it out.

p.s., you will need to remove the plastic cover on the engine to see it.

Default interesting

its really hard to get back there to see anything but i tried, i took the plastic shroud off and lifted it up enough to see inside....it had alittle oil in there (probably not a good thing)
around the metal intake is a rubber gasket that the plastic fits over, though not really snug. i notice on both sides of the pins on the bottom a place for bolts....neither side had any....should the plastic shroud besides the two bolts on top have two in the back? it would seal better if it did
