Default Problems with ECU communication

K, took the ladies 2000 VW Golf to get inspected today, came back with a rejection sticker due to no communicatioin with the ECU. I double checked this with a scanner and sure enough there is no communication. Found the ross tech page about the k line with aftermarket radio's, so I pulled the radio and made sure the k line was disconnected. Still no communication with the ECU, any thoughts on what to do next. Could the K line be fried due to being hooked up to 12 volts? Bad ECU? Thanks,

P.S. I checked the fuses already

Default Found the problem

Ended up throwing my scanner into overload protection, little built in breaker popped and I didn't notice it, communication is now resolved.
