do progressives have any negative effects on shocks? Are progressive springs just a compromise to have a lowered stance and a comfortable ride? Or do they have some performance value?

Performance wise I only see negatives. Not as much travel b/c only some of the spring is "sport". Also you don't really know how the car is going to react on different turns, since the spring is not the same stiffness. I think fixed rate are better IMO.

non-linear K values can be used on any spring. doesn't matter if its a short lowering spring or a tall baja spring. but, it is for a comfortable ride.

Uhh ohh...just discovered that the supposedly progressive Eibach Pro-Kit springs appear to be linear
