I just did a compression test on the 20V in my CQ and although the readings were all consistant around 175-180psi, they didn't hold at that. Should it??
As it's hard to get the fitting tight in the spark plug hole given the depth of the hole there may have been some leaking around the fitting, but I couldn't hear any.
Does it sound like a leak down test would be a good thing to do?

Most gauges I've used all have a check valve in them that holds the pressure until you press the release button. I've never done a leak down test, but it sounds like your gauge is meant more for that type of test. By the way, how are things in the 'peg?

than just a compression test. Your compression test issue sounds like you don't have a gauge that will hold the highest pressure measured.
