Default Questions regarding upgraded exaust...

Hey,

well one of my cats has no finnally died. A terrible raddle always is comming from it. So unfortunatly now i ahve to get a new exaust. what im wonder is this. Currently the car is bone stock, and an automatic...what are the benefits of buying a cat back exaust system...who sells them for the 93 90S, or do you think it would be better just to replace the cat and leave the rest of the exaust alone? should i replace both cats at the same time, or is it ok to just replace one (im guessing replace both) what do you all think? thanks.

adam.

Default No "after-market" cat back system available for the Non-Quattro 90's.

The OE cats cost $500-$1000, each from Audi.
Their full stainless steel.

Suitable replacements can be had from $70-$300.
They are mild steel tube, stainless cat.

No one here in the US makes a cat back system
that is fabricated & on the shelf waiting to be sold for the non Quattro's. Quattro's can be equipped with a Stebro system. www.stebro.com

There are "custom" systems available, you can have built, at a good exhaust shop. Prices vary greatly.

Rear section mufflers are available for around $400, imported from Germany.

My exhaust system is fully custom, cats & all.
Cost me over $1000, and alot of welding.

With the automatic trans, I would not modify too much, as the auto-box seem to suffer in the long run. Replacing mine with a 5 speed soon!

Default Just had my after-market cats put back on today . . .

. . .After running a custom 2-into-1 single muffler in their place.

A lot quieter! the V6 no longer sounds like a tractor at low revs and an angry bee at high revs!

And the power difference of having escaping gasses hit the catalyts? - absolutely none that I can tell! the car still pulls like it used to.

Default Its true...

TAP says they have one on their site, but that's only for the quattro. I called to order one, and they said that no one made the cat back system for non quattros. I just got the muffler and plan on taking it to a muffler shop within the year to get the rest done. So to anwser the question...Scorpion does not have a cat back for n/q.

Default your gonna get raped on an exaust from tap

best thing to do...........go to a local exaust shop (like mieneke, not midus) have them custom bend you 2.5" pipes all the way back and install a universal muffler. watch out for ****ty sounding honda-like universals (high-pitched ringy garbage) I've got 2.5" stainless pipes and a Ractive universal on my 80. Pretty loud but real deep sound.
