Default R134 a retrofit?

Has anyone here converted their R12 AC system to an R134a system and had success? What are the possible concerns/problems? Was it difficult? What brand retrofit kit did you use etc.? Thanks for the tips!

I did it in a volvo with an intertec kit. Once I replaced the parts that were bad, there were no problems. The system is more sensitive to the amount of r134a, so results can be disappointing if the charge isn't done well. You should have the system purged of the R12 (direct venting is a federal offense and doesn't get you a vacuum. Some places recommend replacing the receiver/dryer, but I didn't.

Having said that and given the serious smoking that must go on among the Audi design engineers, there is absolutely no reason that I would expect an R12-R134A conversion to go smoothly on an Audi.

Default I have.

When I bought my car the A/C was pretty weak so I decided to go to Wal-Mart and get the R-134a kit. It was about $30. Here is a pic.

Folowed directions, asked around, and got my system recharged. Only used 2 cans (and only about 75% of the 2nd can was used). Before recharging the system barely cooled the air, after it came out at a frigid 32 degrees Fahrenheit, BRRRRR.
