I have flushed with wood bleach, which is oxalic acid. It will remove rust, and since we have a cast iron block, there is alot of rust to work on. Of course, you have to flush the thing like crazy afterward to get it all out. I backed flushed the heater core with this and the stuff coming out was gross. Ultimately, a new radiator is the smart but pricier move, since it is not that bad to replace.

Maybe this diagram will help.
You have two bolts on each side at the bottom that sit on rubber bushings. You have two bushings on top that are pressed into short arms that bolt onto the frame. That's it, just those 4.
With the hoses gone and after removing those it should lift right out.

so here are some updates for the ppl that maybe interested.
so i ran the Prestone super flush first, and u can c the result above. now i ran prestone super radiator cleaner, which you are supposed to ran for about 6 hours, i think i got more then that, but ow well. honestly, this was the nastiest crap i have ever seen coming out of a cooling system! i was replacing my radiator anyway, but this was kinda of an experiment just for the hell of it:-) so i got my old radiator out, flushed all the lines and heater core, and also drained from the bottom of the block, with just running water to get the leftovers from the "prestone flush" out of the system and installed the new radiator. pictures are of what i drained from my cooling system and what the old and the new radiator looks like. also sometime in the next few days ill take the old radiator apart just to show to ppl what happens to a radiator after 17 years of use.

Back in the day were not most radiators metal with copper fins inside? Not sure if that method would work with aluminum and plastic radiators of today.
