Rear brake caliper rebuild question
I would guess that I should empty all the brake fluid before I replace the rear caliper seals/caps. Is the best way to do this by opening the bleeder screw on the rear passenger brake and put an empty pressure bleeder on the brake reservoir? ( I am replacing the fluid anyway) or is there a better way?

Re: Rear brake caliper rebuild question: answer
If you are rebuilding the caliper, just disconnect the hose going to it, cap it off so no fluid drains, and then work on the caliper. If you let to much fluid drain and the MC gets dry, then you need to prime the MC which is anoying.
Once you get the caliper off i would drain it then, but not while the line is still on there. You basically want to always keep fluid in the system as best as you can in this situation.

Thanks.. an additional question
Since I have not even looked at my rear caliper yet, what kind of fastener connects the hose to the caliper? Do I need to replace it? If so, is that a Pep Boys item, or do I need to go through the dealer? Thank you!

here ya go.
to disconnect the caliper,
1. remove wheel
2. remove bolts holding caliper
3. swing caliper to side and remove pads.
4. take a wrentch that fits the line, hold the line in place and turn the caliper. Try not to twist the line its self
5. twist off the line by twisting the caliper only.
6. Cap of line.
7. caliper is removed.
if everything is done right, the only thing you need to replace are the parts you are going after. The line should be fine unless it is overly rusted or broken somehow.
If you are working on the back brakes, you need to remove the e-brake cable first, before removing the line and the caliper, leave the caliper on and use a screw driver to pull the lever back and remove it with another screwdriver.
