Default Rear diff update, new question too about throw out bearing

I checked the rear diff out a little while ago (see: https://forums.audiworld.com/9080/msgs/225461.phtml), and the actuator on the diff is moving. However, it is quite rusted, and moves slowly and stutters. I'd say a 1/4" of travel after my friend hit the button. I sprayed it with PB Blaster for now, and we'll see what happens. I assume I will have to disassemble the mechanism and clean it up and grease it. Could this be causing it? Should it move more freely when the button is pressed?

Also noticed (grrrr) when I push the clutch pedal in a faint 'whirrrrrr' from under the car. TOB? I did some searching and Miktip mentioned regreasing his bearing on his Coupe GT, and possibly accessing it through the starter hole. I've never looked in there, nor investigated Audi transmissions. Any thoughts on this, or a BTDT?

Thanks!

never had a problem with the diff YET, but I assume the 20v has the tob right on the pressure plate like a V6, not in the back of the tranny like a VW. But I'd be very careful spraying grease in there as you wouldn't want any on the disk. because your kinda spraying blindly unless you get a mirror going.

Default No BTDT yet

But I have seen disks get ruined by using too much grease on the pilot bearing.

The hard part is, you're putting grease on a part that's spinning at engine RPM(at least for a little bit). It'll tend to throw off anything you put on there. Second, the bearing surface is between the two metal races, getting grease to the bearings would be really hard.

I'm a little leary about doing that. Hopefully someone else will have some firsthand experience with that situation.
