You basically have to remove the motor mount piece, the big piece of aluminum there next to the starter, to remove the starter!
The piece has 3 bolts inside the wheel well, and 1 in the middle of the mount.
MAke sure you have the engine "supported" when you go to remove the right side mount. See picture.
You may be able to support the motor from underneath?
R&R of the starter on the V6 is definetly a PITA!

You seen the picture?
You MUST support the engine before you remove its right side motor mount! Because its 500lbs thats going to shift suddenly to the right, and who knows what may happen?
I have heard some people support the engine from the bottom with a jack? You'll have to find a suitable place on the bottom of the engine for such support, because your engine has an aluminum oil pan, which cant support that much weight.
Main reason I spent the $60 for the upper support
tool(picture)
Also disconnect the battery before you remove the starter's wires! ;o)

I removed the alternator to remove the starter. This avoids removing the motor mount!! I also rebuilt my alternator while it was out. Miktip where did you get your support brace?

ahh I have well abused harbor freight.
I have a 94 90s so there may be some differences?
(Instructions for those you need them)
I removed the following:
1. disconnect battery
2. remove acc belt
3. remove air duct for alternator.
4. remove wiring for alternator
5. unbolt and remove alternator
6. remove wiring for starter
7. unbolt and remove the starter
Removing both requires creative work due to lack of space. I thought I would have to pull the motor mount but I did not have the tools present to support the motor so I worked around it. Its not that bad once you pull the alternator because you have a straight shot back to the starter. I do recommend that you price an eletrical shop in your area and have the alternator rebuilt while its off.

I made a big mistake and installed my engine with the starter lying on the ground, thinking the starter was the reason i couldnt get my engine installed correctly. The only thing i found that had to come out was the passenger side motor mount, and hit it with a big hammer, i supported the engine witha 2 ton jack right on the oil pan(I know I'm a bad person) you actually are only holding up a very small part of the engine weight.
