Default Replaced heater core, now low on refrigerant

I had my heater core replaced a month ago and now the A/C isn't working too well and the system is low on freon (actually R-134a). The tech thinks that it might be leaking from the o-rings where he took it apart but I thought I might ask and see if anyone else had had refrigerant leaks after swapping out their heater core. If there are some other weak links in the system it would help to know where so he can check to make sure that everything else if up to par. The system had plenty of refrigerant when he drained the system so it wasn't leaking before. Thanks!

Default IIRC you have to drain and disconnect to get to HC.

The evap core is taken out in the process... the o-rings should have been replaced. Make them fix it.

Default Well....

I did the work myself, and only removed/disconnected the heater core side when I did. So I "knew" the a/c side was not tampered with. Since a Tech did the work for you, one can only guess at what was/was not done?

If I had to guess, I'd say the evap core fittings were not tightned all the way, or the O-rings did not re-seal correctly?

Its a good idea to always replace O-rings, vise re-use, to ensure no future leaks ;O)

However, some shops bank on your return....

You guessed correctly that the O-rings were not replaced. Hopefully that's all there is too it, I'm taking the car in tomorrow to get it checked out.

Default Yes

Yes, it was recharged and verified to be full. As MikTip said it's probably the O-rings but with Audis you never know. Should find out more tomorrow.
