Wowsers...it sounds like this guy had a lot more problems than stealing a few parts from one guy...
...though. If he had priors, this shouldn't have been anything new, although, it might have just been enough to make him do it. Either way it's a sad ending to a sad story.

There's nothing sad about it. The scumbag did the honorable thing after being caught.
At least now he won't polluting the gene pool or costing the taxpayers money by languishing in jail.
