Default shortshift and 2w cluster bulbs questions

I'm trying to lower the actual height of me shift rod. I''m thinking i can just take out the center console and hack off about a inch and a half and then just re thread it. And I'm wondering if anyone has done this and knows the size tap that I'd need. I gotta go buy it and i need the exact size. I'm not talking about the throw of the shifter but the actual height of the shifter. I know I'm using the wrong word for it. Shift rod, shifter, **** I can't think of the right word. Also, I'm gonna be doing some 2w bulb swaps in the cluster and i need to know how many bulbs are sittin back there? Anyone remember/ is it four behind the cluster and three behind the aux gauges? I'm in a late 95 90.

Default How late of a '95 do you have (last 6 digits of your VIN)?

For the aux gauges:
If you're 8C-S-030 000 or below you use clear glass bulbs...if you're 8C-S-030 001 or above you need the bulbs with the little red condoms on them.

I forget how many you need to do the 2W upgrade for the IC though...plenty of folks here have done it, so I'm sure someone will pipe up soon...

Default higher wattage bulbs aren't really necessary unless you've changed gauge faces... in which case u

need 7 bulbs (or 6 if you plan to remove one of the tach bulbs.)

Oh, and 1" is the preferred amount to chop off the shift arm. *u could* go 1.25" but that'd be pretty short... and I certainly wouldn't suggest you take off any more. I did 1" and it's now @ a nice looking and comfortable height. Sorry I don't know which tap to use; not off the top of my head at least. 3/8" rings a bell but don't take my word for it. good luck

check yah later

Default You wont want to take anymore than 1/2" max from your shifter...

I took mine down that much and got a short shift kit from Ubernugen.com and mines super stubby and I wouldnt want it with any shorter of throws.

Default new bulbs and lowered shift arm done.

It's not necessary. Yeah right. I just finished and my gauges light up like a mother****er now. And plus two of my three aux gauge bulbs were out so they DID need to be replaced.
I cut just over an inch off the shift arm and it looks so good now!
