Default smokin

It was about 36f out this morning but it seems like my car was putting out alot more smoke then it should be at idle. I also notice it seems as if my gas milage is pretty poor of late. even though its running smooth and fine could this be the O2 sensor or would it be running rough also? sad thing is with only 109k I think my rings are a bit worn and the synthetic I put in it is burning up which is probably part of the smoking problem. Is this a V6 trait? opinions?

Default Re: is it smoke..or condensation (steam, fog, etc.)?

If it's condensation, running a higher octane fuel should reduce the moisture output. Other than rusting out your exhaust a little sooner, I wouldn't sweat it.
If the smoke is black..THATS unburnt fuel; I would also imagine the back of your car would be all black and sooty as well. If that is the case, might be time for an O2...check the codes if you can. Good luck.

Default more a light white smoke

its certainly not black and my back end is clean. it has been raining and cold so it could be condensation but it was still alittle smokey after driving it about 10 miles so that should of been burned up by then. the 10-30 synth I have been running for about 8 months I think is just a bit too slick for my engine. I have 10-40 lubromoly to stick in soon to see if that helps.

Default Re: Oil burns more of a blue color...

My CQ burns about a quart of regular 10w30 every 3k miles and about 2 of 10w30 mobil1 over the same interval. The only reason I really used mobil was because it kept my lifters quiet. With 'regular' oil they get tappy when it's time for an oil change.

Default you really clocked some miles

at 314k i'd expect your car to burn a qt of oil every 3k, I am not sure if i am burning that much oil but it does seem to dissapear somehow. It probably was'nt the best idea to put in amsoil when for its entire life it used regular castrol. From some posts the v6 burned less with mos2 lubromoly and I would think it would benefit the 5's and 4's also. When spring arrives here some year I will get around to tinkering.
