Default 5W50 and a minimum 5 minute warm up at anything below freezing.

Time is relative. 5 minutes spent warming up is better than hours spent dealing with a damaged motor....aside from the added cost.

I've seen too many cars that were "in gear" go rolling down hills...never hurts to have a backup...

Default Here in Australia where it's frequently +40C in the summer, I find that 20w50 is too thick....

I use Mobil 1 5w-50 year round, which includes -7C ski trips and +40C trips across the waste lands.

Now I'm guessing you're in N.A. and the 15 degrees you're referring to is in fahrenheit, if so, then 20w50 is too think. If I were you I'd try, depending on how much oil your car consumes, a 0w40, or 5w50.....

good luck

Two days ago I saw a rig that'd haul that tanker.
You wanta' get outa' here? You talk to me......

Default eh.. don't worry

i daily drive my 88 90Q with 198k miles on the motor, and i have crap 5w30 dino juice in it.

Monday it was 2F when i drove to work. The high was 9F that day. My front wheel bearings squeal like crazy, my blower motor needed to be turned on and off 3 times before it would run without squealing, but the engine i never worry about. I run it WOT right on up to 4k rpm all the way out of my neighborhood. Once i see the coolant needle get onto the scale i open it up to redline.. usually its been 5 minutes of running at this point.

Note that my car hasn't ever reached operating temp - i.e. where the thermostat opens and coolant starts flowing, in daily driving this winter. I have removed the aux radiator and all A/C parts.

The car is sluggish when you start it because the engine is cold.. and the ignition conditions are just different there.. it is hard to ignite in a cold environment.

I say - don't sweat it. The NG is a cheap, bulletproof, junk motor. If you blow one up, put in another one, or preferably, an MC.
