Default Not the beam. The lower valance is one of the most poorly engineered pieces of junk I've seen.

Fastened at each wheel well and along the top above the bumper. How many were lost to snowbanks last year?

Default more expensive parts, coil packs, control arm failures, abs computer

seems like they have weaker timing belts and water pump.

Default MAF sensors, temp sensors, Tip trans troubles, leaky axle seals, rear wheel bearings, steering racks

Now.... not all of this is just on the B5's, but they are not any more reliable per say than the older cars. Limp mode becomes your friend, the car will always get you home... just may be a long slow ride.

I loved my A4 Avant more than anything... it just was not a perfect car. Acceptable for sure, but just not that much better then the older cars. The 80-90-100's are a nice car and just about as comfortable with a hint more "rustic elegance" I guess. I think you can feel the road/the corner/the snow/ice better in them and THAT is why I am "going backwards*---plus I can't see having the extra $$ in it at all and we're building a house right now.............

Default sensors are rutine repairs in german cars in general, B5 definately drives better tho

weird part about rear wheel bearings, B4q uses same suspension and I haven't heard any problems.

Default I agree, as to the bearing I just seem to remember a bunch of posts on them over on B5 ......

Personally I had no issues, but my car only had 50K when I sold it.

In general I would say the A4's are a good car... they're just an Audi, not a Honda/Toyota/Subaru. But that's not a bad thing either!
