Ok, so it's been a week or so since I changed my oil and went with Delvac 15W40. So far, car runs great and my oil consumption has gone from horrible to just plain bad - which is an improvement. Can someone clarify for me - I have heard Delvac is a true synthetic oil, others say it's not. At 7.99 a gallon, I find it hard to be synthetic, but who knows, it IS supposed to be for Diesels. I'm thinking about using it in the Passat, as alot of the A4 guys do, but not sure yet. So far, all the results have been good, and supposedly it's a 10K oil change - unfortunatly that Duke will probably burn that 10 times over by 10K!

Mostly Castrol GTX, but I put whatever was cheap, like Coastal, which I know is a bad practice. Trouble is, I neglected this motor, because it was already tired when I got it. It's run better now with Delvac than ever before.
Plus, changing the oil for the fourth time in two years probably helped. Luckily I treat my others much better :-)
