Default Sound insulation...

Anybody have any pics of the inside of the doors on their 90's (any year)?? Any dimensions of the sound insulation mat in the 90's doors???

I'm trying to determine if the 80's have less sound insulation than the 90's. On the highway my 80q practically deafens me. I don't remember this being the case in either of my former 90's ('91 and '95). The '91 had the same wheels and tires as my 80q so I know that's not it.

I'm not sure if it just seems worse because the A6q is so quiet or if it is actually that much LOUDER then my former 90's!!

Any pics of the inside of the door showing the sound insulation mat would be greatly apprecaited. TIA!

Default Don't have pictures, but...

You could try DynaMat or something like that. I use it for my subwoofers, its a bit expensive though.

Default Thanks Primo. Although right now I'm just looking to see if there is a difference...

....between the 80's and the 90's in the doors.

Eventually I will add sound insulation I just want to see where I need to start adding it. I may start on the floorboard and I may start in the doors. Depends if/how much of a difference there is between the 80's and 90's at the doors.

Default Yep, I know my '95 was quieter than my '91....

...and the '99 is DEAD quiet. I'm just curious to see how much of a difference there is in the door sound insulation between an 80 to a 90.

I got to start comparing somewhere!! This gives me a "benchmark" since I've driven all of these models.

Default The actual insulation in the doors of my 1995 90 is very thin...

Its surprisingly thin considering how quiet the car is.. I would say its no more than a quarter of an inch thick...

One of the main reasons why the doors stay so damn quiet is that they have this rubber insulation between the inner door and the metal frame, which deadens sound...

I noticed a knocking and some loud sounds coming from the driver side door, so I took it off and noticed that a couple were missing..

1/4" would be pretty thick. It's not even an 1/8" thick in my 80q.

Default I said at most..

Its proably more like 1/8" thick.. even 1/4" is really thin in terms of sound insulation..

You dont have to use dynamat. Most car audi places sell a foam material you can stuff behind the door cards thats really cheep. It looks like the fake snow you'd put around a Xmas display.
