In since most of us are fabrication hounds and as it looks, most Audis cannot be charged at home because of lack of a low-side port...... I have a good hose fabrication shop here in town, anyone ever try to refabricate their low-side hose to have a 134a service port in it? I can't see there being any problems with doing this, and as long as the hose price isn't outrageous, which these guys are pretty reasonable... Any opinions?? LATERS!

<center><img src="http://home.ec.rr.com/miktip/evap1.jpg"></center><p>Your Audi does have a "low port"! 2 of them! ;O)
Pictured above near the green piece.
1 has the low pressure switch on it.
Problem is they are not your "standard" 134 low port. They have a very unusual metric thread size & pitch.
Other problem is they reside right up against the firewall, above the passengers feet. You have to remove the engine ECU to even get at them!
Yes, I have tried to get a fitting made, but the a/c system cannot be "properly" charged, from the low port, with freon, while the engines running! ;O)
The high side charging is done without the engine & a/c system running & "ensures" the correct amount of freon is added.
Add too much, and your fragile evap core will blow!
Ask me how I know these things? ;O)

Would the same apply to my 88 8v?
I still don't understand why a low side fitting on the line wouldn't work. The compressor still functions the same way - suction on one line, discharge on the other. Unless it's that fragile of a system that the slightest overage of pressure causes hell.
