Default sticky throttle...

Ok.. developed a rather strange problem with the rally car. Throttle has been sticking the last two days... but it doesn't seem like it's the throttle linkage. If it gets stuck, it'll idle around 4000+ rpm... which means it'll keep pulling you down the highway! If it does finally unstick, the idle bounces 1000-1250rpm. By the time I got to work today, after a quick sprint on the highway, the throttle was stuck at 5000rpm. Fiddling with the linkage did nothing... shutting down an engine sitting at 5000rpm isn't fun either.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm wondering about the ISV issue... but why would it be opening at WOT? I've had sticky throttles before from driving in snowstorms (my old vw Fox)... and admittedly it's been REALLY cold here the last few days. But there are no signs that the throttle body itself is stuck open.

Default I had that problem once before...

it was on my 2.0 80. The temp sensor was shot! It could be your isv though.

Default maybe try removing the ISV and cleaning it out with Carb cleaner.

It could also be condensation that has frozen inside, but that seems like it would be more of a constant issue rather than intermitent

Default hmmm...strange issue then. Nonetheless, I'd try cleaning out the ISV...

especially since you had the bouncy idle.

Default when it happened last night, shutting it off and restarting eliminated the idle issue.

Running out at lunch to see if I can troubleshoot anything.

Default I've posted this one before, not too likely but it did happen to me...

1. The hood carpet was hanging down on my engine, hampering the linkage return. There was a wear mark in the carpet. Took me a long time to figure that out.
2. Another time, my cruise linkage was broken and disconnected. It was jamming against something causing the throttle to stick as well. Since your car is a rally-er I'd imagine you don't have CC though.

Default Still sounds like sticky ISV. Get it to act up then unplug the ISV...

then plug it in again (quickly), if the idle resets you've found your problem. Start looking at buying a new one because the cleaning thing is only temporary.
