Default swapping a B5 2.8 motor into a B4 chassis

I'm sure someone here has done it. What's involved? OBD II problems? Any tips to start searching on?

Default the 12V or the 30V? I assume the 30V, otherwise I don't see much purpose.

You'll def. need the harness, ECU and such to go along with it!
You'll want to see if the bell housings mate up too, flywheel sizes, etc. Don't know compatibility of those off the top of my head.

Why not go with something more exciting (20vt or 2.7tt) if you're going to that much trouble? ;-)

Default the purpose is longevity, not performance

Basically, I have a '95 B4 with an excellent body/chassis, but a motor that is on its way south. I also happen to have a source for a good 12v from a B5. I just want to keep my car on the road for another 50k miles.

Thanks!

Default Ah, that makes sense :) Good luck with that!

I don't know that there's going to be much info on that, given it's probably not *most* owners' first choice when doing a motor swap, but I'd think you'd still probably need the wire harness and ECU, but then that may pose a cluster problem.

Or you can try to make it work with the sensors and OBDI controls from your existing setup, but that's a little risky IMO.

Have you asked the 12V forum?

Default since it's a 12v (and hopefully an older one) I can't really see it being that troublesome or

difficult... i mean, it's all practically the same.

THe motor will drop right in.. all the peripherals and hoses will match up... exhaust & intake plumbing is fine... wiring should be mostly similar.

Hell, i'd be tempted just to recycle the B4 wiring + whatever other bits & parts necessary to make the motor run

Default Not really...it is a lot cheaper to buy a B5 2.8 as-is....

As for longevity....12v is a good motor, just maintain it right.

Default as long as all the engine sensors are the same, that could work...

but the OBDI v OBDII stuff may cause an issue

Default ya maybe.. i was more thinking just replace as much B5 2.8 stuff with B4 2.8 as possible.. provided

that things do actually match up.

The 12v didn't last long in the "new" cars so I can't see that they would of changed a whole lot for just a couple years...but again I've never actually compared the 2 side by side. What might screw the project is if fuel and/or timing is vastly different between the 2 engines...again I don't see why it would be since Audi brought the 30v in not long after introducing the A4.
