Default system power

i need to supply more power for my system. i am running a 1200 watt jbl amp. and 400 watt lanzar amp. it's a 1990 audi 80 2.0 liter. w/90 amp alternator. would i be fine to put in a duralast gold up front and then one in trunk? or should i just keep my die hard 635 cold crankin amp bat now and get yellow top in trunk? any suggestions are obliged and needed! thx guys

Default why is it that you need more power?

a 90 amp alternator, 133 total amps of draw at maximum power. Unless you're constantly running the amps at their full rating (very unlikely), the battery should be well enough to provide the rest of the power

if anything, it would be best to upgrade the alternator first

i can't really find any place to do it. every place just says the best they can do is rewind it. and that as what i've been told, just boosts up a few amps and burns it quicker

Default Did you check out the Ultranator?

www.ultranator.com. Maybe you could get a 110-amp and have it rebuilt for 150 amps if you wanted.

http://www.ultranator.com</a

Default well

audi electrical systems are very good. And I'm assuming that your talking max power with that amp figure. I don't know of a high current amp made by JBL so yours probably isn't one. Heres what I did to my 88' 80 with a 830watt RMS (true power) and 3 JL 12W6's. First clean battery terminals, Upgrade alternator power cable to at least 8guage amp wire(found 40ohm drop on my stock cable), run extra 4guage ground cable from battery to good ground on body, If lights dim when bass hits get a good 1 farad capaciter(lightening cap ~$100) I also had my alternater rebuilt to 110amps (any knowledgable auto electricale shop can do this using a stator coil from another audi). a second battery is unesessary, but will always help. An optima yellow top is a deep cycle battery and is pretty ****ty for starting an Audi (or anything besides a honda) so it should only be used as a stereo battery

Default Unesessary

90amps X ~13volts=~1170watts. the Constant power of those amps should reach nowhere near that. The battery will store charge inbetween bass hits, if not get a cap

that sounds like a good idea, but only if it's cheap
