TAP chip upgrade

I do technically agree with you...a NA chip really won't do that . In fact, it will be hard to actually FEEL any improvement at all.
However, a chip is generally cheaper than an exhaust system, and in most cases, adds just as much power. But you rarely see anybody debate the usefullness of an exhaust.
To really FEEL a difference on a NA engine, you should probably do a chip, exhaust, and intake. These three things together make a decent upgrade, but each of them alone doesn't do that much.
In addition, a chip may offer some other useful (depending on your viewpoint) functions like the raising of the rev limiter and the elimination of the speed limiter.
Given that the car in question is quite old, I personally wouldn't do a chip, and would instead concentrate my efforts on making sure it is running as well as possible. I would look start by testing plug wires, injectors, etc to make sure they are in good shape.

Its about a 3rd the cost of a good exhaust system, and does about the same (10hp).
What I was saying, is that alone... a chip is not going to change much for your car. It might make a slight difference, higher redline, more torque, but the trade off is often only 93 octange gas. (But most of us only use that anyways). But all in all, It won't make your car much faster... so if thats your goal plan to do more.
If your planning on doing afew other mods as well (they could be cheaper mods too , tb, highflow mufflers, etc) then it starts to make more sense.
Its not like a turbo car where you spend $300 and get 60hp. You can really end your engine modifications right their.

in a way I agree that a chip may not do too much on a normally aspirated car without any other mods on it. A chip makes it so your car gets the most out of 92-octane gas. In my opinion, you should use a chip, exhaust and performace air filter in a system. then you see some horses. Gains are always alot better on turbo cars though
