Default The TDC mark for my flywheel is where ???

I went to install my new Centerforce clutch and flywheel last night but couldnt find the dang TDC mark. I looked at 1.8t.org - Quattromans Site, but his doesnt have the 12v 2.8's and all his have different codes too. I see a dot of paint on the block above the starter hole. Is that maybe from an old mechanic, marking it for his needs? I turned the main pulley on the front 'till it was lined up with its line/arrow but the bolts for the flywheel only worked with the flywheel in one position. I am hoping Audi designed it that way, so that us newbies couldnt screw up... lets hope.

Yes, it only goes one way. The timing markings may/may not coincide with TDC, may be up to 15d BTDC or ATDC, just depends. The factory FW's have a TDC mark and a timing mark on them. One is a 0 the other is a |, which either one lines up with the edge of the inspection window in the transmission bell housing depending on which engine you have. Did you replace the FW, or are you still using a factory FW? Not all aftermarket FW's come with markings on them that I have seen.

Default using factory FW

the mark is a | and is now just above the hole for the starter. Is that the viewing window ?

Hole is on the driver side of the car (assuming you drive on the right side of the road in a left hand drive car, aka USA, and have a 5cyl car, can't remember about the V6 or I4 but I suspect the window is the same spot).

Default The Audi V6 has no flywheel timing mark & viewing window.

Timing on the V6 is "set" IAW the instructions I posted. Because the V6 has no ignition distributor, and timing is all electronic! ;O)

Default thanks for the pic but i didnt see reference to FW

When I started the flywheel placement, I had the smarts to line up the front TDC marks but I thought that there were rear ones on the flywheel too. Guess I was wrong, which is ok. At least I know now, ya know? lol thanks 4 the help.
