Default Is there any merit to European 20v's having more HP than the U.S. ones?

I've read that the North American 20v engine is rated to 162hp while the same European one is rated to 170hp due to emissions. However, I have not recieved any proof to this statement. I decided to look up the part numbers for the 7A engine ECU's. The two part numbers are 893 906 266BA and 893 906 266D. The number ending in "BA" is for the early two plug ecu and the one ending in "D" is for the 4 plug ecu. You would think if there was a hp differance(differant chips) there would be differant part numbers between 4 plug North American ECU's and European ECU's. I happen to have a 4 plug ECU from Brittain in front of me. The only numbers I see on the outside that may denote anything are: D5 07072 and a number of 0419 on the ECU which looks like a serical number. Anyone have any ideas?

Default Either way ETKA lists the 7A as 170HP across the board...

...US, Europe, etc.

The difference might not only be ECUs...if European cars had different exhausts and/or different (or no) cats, etc...

Default If you look, the 12v is rated at 172hp SAE and 174hp DIN. While the 20v is rated at 162hp SAE

and 164hp DIN. I've seen literature that says the European 20v is rated to 170hp(not sure if SAE or DIN, prolly DIN).

Well you could go through Euro and US ETKA piece by piece and see what differs...

Default Yeah, I'll have to do that.

I'm thinking that some cars had around 170hp with the tubular header/4 plug ecu combo while Audi introduced the new ecu. Where do I find the Euro Etka?

I'll see if I can find a differance between the two in the coming weeks. However, I'm not as interested now as my English ecu didn't come with the wiring harness it was supposed to come with. The seller agread to return my money and I will likely spend that money on an AAN ecu as I'm going 20vt in the coming months.
