My struts are blown right now, and I'm looking at getting new ones. I like the price of the bilstein's, but dislike the need to change to the sports when you get new springs. I like the adjustability of the koni's, but dislike the price. Has anyone had both? If you have either would you buy them again, or switch to the other. Thanks.

If adjustability is something you find yourself "needing" then get the Koni's.
If not, get the Bilsteins.
Why pay for something you dont need? ;O)

My 98.5 1.8T had brand new adjustable Konis on it and I hated em. They were "harder" and less forgiving than any Bilstein I've owned even when adjusted to their softest setting.
However there are tons of people that swear by Konis and several of those are in my close circle of car friends.
Both shocks have a distinct and altogether different "feel" than each other and I think it comes down to which feel you prefer.
Try to hitch a ride in similar cars using each and see which one suits your particular preferences.

between the coilover springs and the caps that hold the struts in the strut tubes?
That area seems to be a very very close fit with minimal gap and I'm trying to determine how far I need to open that area up or perhaps use a teflon or urethane sleeve to dampen any interference issue.
Thanks for your help!

under normal conditions, I'm not experiencing any problems. Though, I can't say for sure that my springs are 'exactly' 2.5" ID...
but there is occasionally an issue during the winter when the perches get crap (sand, rocks) caught between the spring and the perch which caused one to rub. Easy fix - jack and clean

specifically for shim stock between springs and perches. Looks like I'll get back on my ladder today and back up on top of my shelving where I keep my springs and get that roll of urethane down and cut 4 new perch insulators.
Who knows... might even find s'more prizes up there! ;-)
Thanks!
