Do the cams need to be removed to tighten the head boltson a 12v V6. I have a mechanic who says told me that tightening the head bolts can do wonders for leaky heads. He said that most GM cars are known for blown head gaskets. Since the head bolts are stretch bolts they can loosen up and cause low compression. Anyway i figure if he has to remove the cams to do this there is no reason not to r&r the valve stem seals and lifters at the same time

you cannot retorque a stretch bolt. If they work loose for some god awful reason then you must replace them and most likely it would be wise to replace the headgaskets while doing that anyways.
GM parts and stories rarely have much of any good reference for Audis, besides ECC units, yargh.
If you have a "leaky head" then you need fresh gaskets and new head bolts it would seem.
Cheers,
