Default Timing belt on '95 Audi 90 Sport Sedan

Help! Just bought used Audi 90. No idea how many miles are on timing belt. Anyone have recommendations on what to check for on belt? How hard is it to do yourself? Special tools? Replace water pump and tensioner as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Its advisable to replace the water pump, thermostat, and belt rollers, while your there, because if they go bad, the timing belt has to come off again($$$$) to fix one of these items.

Prices & fee's very, depending on who does the work & where you live. ;O)

It is probably worth it to change just so you know that you don't need to worry about it. Shops can check it and tell. It was challenging to change and you do need a couple special tools to change it and reset timing and would definately change the waterpump and there are a couple of different timing belt pulleys that can be replaced. I'm not an expert but had help from a friend at a shop changing it and had to borrow tools from a Porsche Audi shop to finish the job.

It's not too bad...it just takes a while. There ar e 2 "special" tools that you can rent from Blau. You should replace the waterpump, tensioner, idler pulley and thermostat. You will need to remove the radiator fan assemby to get enough room to work. The first special tool holds the cam sprockets synchronized and the second locks the crankshaft. The worst part of the job was scraping the old waterpump gasket off.

Its a good job to save $600. Even if it takes a full afternoon, that's a pretty good wage...

I know it links to your site, saw that... but what source did those images originate from?

I'm basically looking for everything unless you have the entire book scanned
