Default Timing Belt Change ? OUCH!!!

1991 Audi 90 CS non-Q w/AutoTran. 50,000 miles, but 12 years...

Was at the dealer to get a couple minor parts and asked the price of changing the Timing Belt, TB Idler Pulley and Water Pump. Was quoted __$1,300.00__!!! Holy bank account!!

(wasn't even $400 for the same on a newer Mazda and Mercedes has a chain that doesn't need changed..)

Since the parts are only $200 (max) that's nearly 14 hours labor at $80/hr. Two days work?

That can't be normal, can it?

What's a reasonable amount at a decent indy shop? Anyone know any good shops in Dallas area?

Thanks in advance!! Chris

Default Das ist nicht Normal.

More like 3 hours labor tops. Maybe a little more if you change your front crank seal.

I take my car to an independent audi/bmw/porsche shop and they charge $540 for what you're after

Pretty normal at a dealer, they don't seem to like working on the older Audis

Default "Stealerships" ;O)

They were probably also going to do the 50,000 mile service interval items as well?

Stealerships are all about making money!

Main reason so many of us here DIY our maintenance! ;O)

Default Did it myself

I rented the tools and bought the parts from
Blaufernugen (www.audiquattroparts.com) - it
took one day, but not as bad as one would think.
Saved $500 - you just have to be confident that
you have the engine at TDC to do the change - I
double-triple-quadruple checked all.

http://www.audiquattroparts.com</a

Default Try Laszlo's in Richardson Tx.

972-231-5692 I have used them in the past when I have not had time to do something myself.

Make them quote it up front and make them stick to there quote.
